How's this for gross?
Last night after picking Bill up from work, he asked if I wanted to go out for dinner. He suggested we go out for breakfast since I've been craving pancakes for God knows how long. I was all for it! So we drove to an IHOP by the house.

After we were seated at our table, Logan was coloring & making a mess as usual. I don't know how I saw this, but somehow I noticed something salmon-colored in his left nostril. I tilted his head up & pulled his nose back, looking in to his nasal cavity. And what do you know - there's something in there. Again.

I thought he was out of this stage, but I guess not. As we were sitting at the table in the restaurant, I tried digging it out with a straw. I know from previous experience that you're not supposed to dig anything out, but I could see it & it was late on a Friday night. I had a lot of stuff going on the next morning & going to the Doctor to scoop out whatever it is was not on my to-do list. After figuring out the straw wasn't going to work, I looked around for something else. Bill suggested a toothpick. It was a great idea.

So here I am, holding Logan's head very still as I'm trying to dig into his nose with a toothpick. You can't disagree that this has to be the most disgusting thing anyone has seen while sitting down to eat dinner. The good news was the toothpick worked like a charm & I was able to poke the ERASER HEAD in his nose & pull it right out. Yes, you read that right. An eraser head. Apparently 3 days ago when he was in the computer room ripping the eraser tips off of the pencils I just bought, he stuck one up his nose & we never knew.

I'm about to start taping this boy's nose shut.

***On a side note: Despite giving up naps, we're still having sleep issues here. The first morning he woke up at 7AM. Then this morning he woke up at 5AM! Earlier than before! And he also passed out on the couch after dinner at 7PM, before his bath & brushing his teeth. This sucks.***

Glad you were able to get the eraser out. When my sister was little she stuck a lima bean up her nose...It must be a kid thing!!

Have you tried putting him down for a nap earlier? For instance since he gets up between 6-7, feed him lunch at 11 and put him down for a nap at 11:30-noonish. Even if he sleeps for 2-3 hours, by 8-9 he should be tired again.

I've tried it all before before going to No-Naps altogether.

We have tried putting him down earlier. Tried is the operative word. I can put him in his room & fight with him for hours to get to sleep - he'll only sleep when he feels like it. So, I'll get him in his room at noonish but he won't actually fall asleep until 2:00, just like he's been doing before. Then I feel bad not only because we've been power struggling back & forth with this, but he's essentially spent most of the day in his room. That isn't cool.

And on this note, on day 3 of No-Naps, he woke up at 4am. He fell asleep on the couch after dinner one night, fell asleep on the couch at 4:30pm yesterday afternoon - so he is essentially passing out from exhaustion.

Another person suggested ignoring his tantrums. That would be fine if he was throwing rather mild tantrums, but their child must not have absolute freakouts like Logan, hitting walls, kicking things, throwing toys, overturning kitchen chairs & all around being destructive. Yeah, these are behaviors that can't just be ignored. They require immediate discipline - with a long timeout session.

Take this afternoon for instance. He fell asleep in the car on the way home from the park (12:00pm), so I let him nap on the couch rather than carrying him up a flight of stairs to his room. He slept for an hour & a half. He woke up (by my waking him) furious & immediately throws his massive tantrums. I leave him while he's gagging, drooling, screaming, crying. While I'm ignoring him, he gets even worse & starts throwing toys at the windows & trying to knock over the kitchen chairs. So, I have to discipline him, put him on time out & this fight goes on for at least an hour. Clearly, this is not a good solution.

This is a pick your battle kind of situation. I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. Skipping naps obviously isn't working because there isn't a different result in wake time (or bedtime for that matter - even if he is falling asleep before 10pm). There's still a battle no matter what.
